How to Tie an Atlantic Knot (Cafe Knot)

Atlantic Knot Tying Steps

  1. Begin with the narrow end on your right.
  2. Take the narrow end over the wide end and up through the neck loop.
  3. Take the narrow end out and behind the knot from right to left.
  4. Bring the narrow end across the front from left to right and up through the neck loop.
  5. Take the narrow end over the front of the knot so it hangs down.
  6. Take the narrow end slightly to the right of the wide end and bring behind the knot from right to left.
  7. Bring the narrow end, tip upward, toward your left shoulder and tuck it in through the neck loop behind the knot. It should emerge on the right side of the wide end.
  8. Hold the wide end up and slip the narrow piece through the loop at the back of the knot.
  9. Pull the narrow end through the loop and tighten.
  10. Bring both ends back down.
  11. Hold the knot and gently pull the wide end to tighten.

About the Atlantic Knot

The Atlantic Knot is the easier version of the Cape Knot. It has the tendency to loosen during the day, but it’s relatively easy to master and makes a statement.

The Atlantic Knot is also referred to as a Cafe Knot.
